Choose the invitation before the trigger
Inline: the form belongs to the page
Use an inline form for a contact page, a wholesale application or a detailed enquiry. Visitors can read the surrounding information and complete the form at their own pace. Choose a contained width or let it fill the available space.
Popup: the form appears automatically
Use an automatic popup for a short, clearly explained request. In Perfect Forms, you can trigger it after a delay, after a scroll percentage or when the cursor leaves the window. Choose a trigger that gives visitors time to understand the page first.
Floating button: the visitor decides when to open it
A button fixed in a corner can give visitors access to a question or enquiry form without opening it automatically. Use text, an icon or both, and choose a position that works with the rest of your store.
For a long wholesale application, start with an inline page. For a compact “Ask a question” form, a floating button is a useful option to test.
Set up a popup in Perfect Forms
- Create or edit a form and keep its questions focused on one request.
- Open Layout → Presentation and choose the popup presentation.
- Set its trigger and form width. Start with a delay or scroll setting that suits the amount of content on the page.
- Use Styles to match your typography, colours and spacing. Keep the heading and submit button easy to read.
- Save, publish, and place a Perfect Forms Form app block in the relevant theme template using the Form ID.
- Save the theme and test the actual storefront trigger.
To use a floating launcher instead, choose the button-opened presentation. Select Open button to edit its label, icon and corner position. A label such as “Ask a question” explains its purpose more clearly than an unfamiliar icon on its own.
Make the request easy to understand
Give the form one job and make that job visible in its heading. “Ask about this collection” gives a visitor a reason to respond. A vague heading followed by several personal questions leaves them guessing.
For a simple enquiry, ask for an email address and a message. Add other fields only when the person handling the request needs them. The form can collect an answer; it does not automatically subscribe someone to a marketing platform or apply an offer to their cart.
If you collect marketing signups, explain the choice clearly and configure the process that sends consent and contact details to the appropriate system. Verify that connection with a test response before advertising the signup as complete.
Use the submit button to describe the action, such as “Send question”. Put any important explanation before that action, where the visitor can make an informed choice.
Check the real trigger, not just the preview
The editor’s preview opens popup forms immediately so you can inspect them. The saved trigger settings control what happens on the storefront. The form’s standalone Test form page also displays it inline, even if you selected a popup presentation.
Use the theme preview or your storefront to check the actual timing and placement. Remember that a Form block on a shared template can appear on every page using that template. Place it deliberately.
Cursor-leave behaviour relies on a pointer and is not a dependable way to reach phone users. Test the mobile experience explicitly and choose a different presentation or trigger when it better fits your audience.
Give it a proper mobile check
- Open and dismiss the form with touch. Confirm that the close control is easy to reach.
- Focus the last field with the keyboard open. Make sure you can still reach the submit button.
- Check that the floating button does not cover your cart, chat widget or consent controls.
- Try the form with keyboard navigation on desktop and confirm you can leave it again.
- Submit a response and check it in the app, including any downstream notification.
Review the placement after it has been used. If the form needs a paragraph of explanation or customers keep abandoning it, give it a dedicated page and a clear link from the relevant part of your store.
